After two years of volunteer service, the City of Fairfield’s Poet Laureate, Suzanne Bruce, will pass the pen to Solano College English Professor, Michael Wyly.
Wyly currently teaches English at Solano Community College and was chosen as the next Poet Laureate by the City Council. He will assume the role on January 1, 2025.

During her tenure as Poet Laureate, Bruce shared her poetry at several city council meetings and public events. She also organized several events to encourage aspiring poets, with a focus on youth poets. These events included Hike & Write’s, open mic’s, readings, and an ongoing column in the Daily Republic. Her service has been inspirational, and she leaves large shoes for Wyly to fill.

Wyly is eager to take on the challenge and continue Bruce’s legacy of community engagement through poetry. Bruce will formally introduce Wyly at her last event, Culture Celebrations on December 21.
