Our Mission 

The Fairfield Fire Department is responsible for all aspects of fire service operations. This includes Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Prevention.

Fire Chief

The Fire Chief is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and reviewing the activities and operations of the Fire Department and to minimize loss of life and property through fire prevention, fire suppression, building and fire inspection and by providing emergency medical services; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager.

John Sturdee is a native of Fairfield. He was appointed Fairfield’s fire chief in November of 2023. He began his career with Fairfield in 1989 as a volunteer firefighter and he has served in every rank in the organization. John possesses a bachelor’s degree in fire science, and he is proud to have led a variety of department teams over the years. While fulfilling his day-to-day duties John has also held the titles of Strike Team Safety Officer, Emergency Manager, and Operational Area Coordinator.
