The City of Fairfield Fire Department is partnering with Cal Fire to conduct a controlled burn exercise in the Rolling Hills Open Space in mid July. The burn will happen on either July 8-11 or July 15-17, depending on weather. The burn will start at 7:00 a.m. and be extinguished at 5:00 p.m. on all three days.
The purpose of the training is to manage and reduce overgrown vegetation to mitigate the risk of wildfires and protect the community. The exercise will also provide crucial, hands-on training for our state and county firefighters, enhancing their skills and preparing them to deal with real fire scenarios.
Residents should expect to see smoke and flames but should be assured that these burns are carefully controlled and monitored by professional fire crews. During the training there will be increased firefighter presence and activity who will be taking all necessary safety measures to ensure the training is conducted without risk to residents and/or property. The City has confirmed that no endangered species will be affected by the training and that the burns will have minimal environmental impact.
Residents are asked for their cooperation in avoiding the training area to allow firefighters to perform their duties without interruption. For questions or concerns, contact Battalion Chief Larry Palmer at (707) 428-7375.
